What's a Remuda anyway?

The word "Remuda" comes from western cowboy heritage. Pronounced
"RUM - YOU - DUH" locally, it is derived from the spanish language and means a herd or corral of working horses. Or sometimes it is described as a relay of horses used one after another as they wear out.

Accompanying a Remuda is always a cattle herd. On expansive and long cattle drives the cowboys required a large number of horses. These Remuda's of horses could reach into the hundreds. They were very valuable assets and were sometimes the target of horse thief's and Indians because of their great utility.

The word "Remuda" is not used as commonly today, mainly you hear it in John Wayne westerns and Louis L'amour novels. The choice for the word as course name was meant to conjure the spirit of the west and remind one of the awe-inspiring sight hundreds of thunderous work horses might evoke.

And Nobody minds if you call us the work horse of golf courses. Our goal is to perfect your game and increase your enjoyment through lots of practice, lots of reassurance, lots of motivation and lots of fun. That is the essence of what our Remuda was designed for.

Envisioned by Keith Downs (1931-2003), the course has Wide open fairways and modern oversized greens to emulate the expanse of the western deserts and Rocky Mountains. Here you experience the freedom of driving your tee shots as far as you can, (can you almost see yourself as the cowboy driving cattle as far as the eye can see!)

Keith designed a Course that would allow every golfer, city slicker and country folk of all abilities, to accurately play the game and gauge their abilities without the course needlessly punishing good shots.

The even lie of the terrain aids players in finding their golf balls quickly and does not constantly lean downhill so you are on a continuous chase after stray shots.

During the past seven seasons the response has been overwhelmingly positive from men's and women's groups, seniors and juniors, experienced players as well as the new tender foots. Reasonable rates and lots of fun events and association play make Remuda your place to play regularly.

Remuda aims to offer green fees all folks can afford. We are not municipally owned and we rely on guests like you to keep our grass green. Because of this we strive to keep you happy and keep green fees at or below the expected prices. Plus we reserve all the best tee times for the daily fee players!

Grab a bite for lunch at our grill, (and not just baked beans.) Take a sip out of the bottomless supply of drinks from our watering hole. You'll locate golf balls, tees, and essential gear at our golf shop to outfit you for the perfect round. Happy trails, pardner, please visit us soon, ya hear!

Bridal up your team to visit your new Remuda of 18 thoroughbred golf holes. Escape to the serenity of the Farr west country side, conveniently located just minutes from two freeway exits near Farr West Exit 349, Willard Bay South Marina, and the Smith and Edwards surplus store.

P.S. View an overhead map of the course to see how the surrounding properties form a virtual 360 degree corral around all 18 holes. Creating a unique Remuda of it's own!
